Chapel West Special Services District

Celebrated it’s 35th year anniversary in 2021


This municipal taxing district was established by city ordinance and state statute in 1986. The district is governed by a nine member board of commissioners elected from the membership who conduct the services and business of the district.

Evelyn Schatz, who died in 2003, was the first business manager and executive director of the Chapel West Special Services District. She is remembered fondly on a sign at Chapel and Howe Streets. 

 

 

The Chapel West Special Services District is an area of the City of New Haven that runs along Chapel Street from York Street to Sherman Avenue, Howe Street from George to Elm Streets, Dwight Street from Chapel Street to George Street, Park Street from Elm to Crown, York Street from Elm to Crown, Crown Street from Park to Howe, and Orchard Street from Chapel Street to George Street. This municipal taxing district was established by City Ordinance and State Statute in 1986.
