The Cannon Officially Opens

City of New Haven Press release

On Thursday, July 7, New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker joined city and business leaders to celebrate the opening of the newest restaurant and bar in the Dwight neighborhood, The Cannon.

The Cannon gets its name from the English soccer team, Arsenal, and is the home pub for local Arsenal fans, the New Haven Gooners. As the only vegan and vegetarian sports pub in town, The Cannon is bringing new life to a site that has been unoccupied in recent years and is a gateway to the historic Dwight neighborhood.

Co-owners Kevin MacKenzie, Tessa Davis and Skyller Melton created The Cannon at the site of a former dry-cleaning business. The partners said they wanted to blend unique vegetarian and vegan eats with local beers, superb cocktails and a sports-friendly atmosphere.

Chapel West Welcomes More Amour Boutique

Press release

New Haven, CT – Yale University Properties is excited to announce the official ribbon cutting for More Amour Boutique in the Chapel Street Historic District of downtown New Haven on Wednesday, April 6 at 2:30pm.

Immediately following the ribbon cutting, guests can enjoy a DJ from 2:30pm-4:30pm, a performance by local singer STOUT, and light refreshments and hors’ d’oeuvres. More Amour Boutique is an independently owned, woman-owned, and black-owned small business, offering edgy, fashion-forward women’s clothing and accessories that cater to a variety of styles and budgets.

The owner, Kim Poole, is no stranger to the fashion industry, having worked for Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue as a sales associate. She uses her years of experience and expertise from working with name-brand designers when curating her collection of one-of-a-kind, statementmaking pieces. Although many of her loyal clientele is from the surrounding area, Kim has many customers who come from all over the country and make a point of visiting her store when they’re in town. New Haven has always been Kim’s dream location for opening her own boutique because of its walkability and stylish clientele, but her decision to move to this particular space on Chapel Street was one made out of nostalgia.

“I was walking down Chapel Street one day and came across this space that was available for lease, and I knew I had to have it,” says Kim. “It reminded me of the type of boutiques that I would see in my hometown of Baltimore, Maryland, and it instantly reminded me of home.”

More Amour Boutique, located at 1130 Chapel Street in New Haven, is open Monday-Saturday, 10:00am-7:00pm. Convenient hourly parking is available at The Shops at Yale parking lot located at 161 York Street, behind Harvest Wine Bar & Restaurant and the Yale Center for British Art. Visit TheShopsatYale.com/Park for directions.

“We are excited to celebrate the opening of a new business at The Shops at Yale and delighted to welcome a woman and minority-owned small business to New Haven,” said Lauren Zucker, Yale University Associate Vice President for New Haven Affairs and University Properties. “Yale University’s community investment program supports independently-owned businesses, bringing jobs to New Haven residents and expanding the city’s tax base.”
